Feeding Our Neighbors

SD Events is committed to giving back.  We are proud to be a founding member of the Feeding Our Neighbors initiative started by the New England Chapter of the National Association of Catering and Events (NACE).

There is a growing trend to cut down on wedding waste.  The Feeding our Neighbors initiative is a program that provides food to local shelters and food pantries.  SD Events has partnered with venues such as the Fairmont Copley, East Meets West and Ambrosia catering among others. One of our largest donations was from the “summer bash” of the season hosted by Ernie Boch JR. The leftover food, including pasta, lobster tail and other dishes, was donated to the Boston Rescue Mission which fed over 200 people.

MSPCA Angell

Growing up in Vermont, we always had animals and most would say I lived on a farm. At one point we had 10 pigs, a couple goats and even geese who would greet me every morning as I left for school (not always in a friendly way either).  My mom has always had a love for horses and still has about 8 that she grooms and loves.  They are her children now that I am out of the house.  As a result, I’ve seen the joy animals can give someone and their unconditional love.  10 years ago my husband and I brought home Elton and Mariah, our two cats (yes, they are named after Elton John and Mariah Carey).  They are our children and I admit spoiled.  Elton was recently in an accident and had to be rushed to MSPCA Angell who saved his life.  It was not until then I realized how fortunate we are to have such an amazing hospital right here in Boston for our pets.  Without them our “baby man” as we call him would never have walked again.  He still has some limitations, but he jumps and is able to enjoy our fenced backyard, much like a dog.  All of this would not have been possible without the doctors and others at Angell.  We cannot thank them enough.

It makes me so angry when I hear stories of neglect and abuse against creatures that only want to be loved and give love. The first time I saw the Sarah McLachlan’s ad for ASPCA I immediately started crying and could not stop (my husband thought I was laughing). I now have to turn the channel immediately, but this along with Elton’s accident, has made me realize the importance of giving and supporting such a worthy cause. On behalf of our clients, SD Events makes an annual donation to the MSPCA Angell.  I hope we are all fortunate enough to have experienced the love and support an animal can give.
